Last but not least from team JM is Cortney Singleton. Cortney is John Michael's Acupuncturist. She has been working with John Michael for about 5 years now. Six years ago you would not have been able to come anywhere near John Michael with a needle, but he has been poked and prodded so much over these last years that it doesn't even phase him any more.
Below is just a little bit of info about acupuncture and its benefits.
Acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands or with electrical stimulation. Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced "chee") through the body that is responsible for overall health. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health. For John Michael, it definitely helps with blood flow and reducing spasticity.
Cortney is another out of the box thinker and has tried many different techniques with John Michael. Instead of needles, she sometimes uses other forms of stimulation over the acupuncture points, including:
Heat (moxibustion)
Pressure (acupressure)
Friction
Suction (cupping)
Impulses of electromagnetic energy
Cortney is always so flexible with our crazy schedule and brings such positive energy to the room. Her sweet and gentle demeanor is a perfect fit for his team. She has also been extremely willing to implement any new ideas or gadgets we come across. She works at the Salt Room in Orlando if anyone is looking for a really good, knowledgeable acupuncturist.
Thank you Cortney for all you do to help John Michael. We so appreciate you being a part of his team and your dedication to helping him recover.
Prayer Requests:
- the work of ALL his therapists will be rewarded
- all movements would be consistent, strong, sustainable and functional
- louder voice - stronger breath support
- peace and patience
But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." 2 Chron 15:7
Love to all,
Vickie
